Privacy Policy

This policy explains what data the Self Car Washes mobile app and the websites isepesulad.ee and selfcarwashes.com collect, why, and the choices you have. The service is a directory of self-service car washes. You can browse it without creating an account — we have no logins and collect no names, passwords, or payment details.

Who is responsible

The data controller is Devaster OÜ (Estonia). For any privacy question or request, contact info@selfcarwashes.com.

The mobile app

Location

If you grant location permission, the app uses your device's location to centre the map on you, sort nearby car washes by distance, and — if you choose — fill in the area for a new-wash alert. Apart from an alert area you deliberately create (stored rounded to about 110 m — see “Email alerts for new car washes” below), your location is processed on your device. It is not transmitted to our servers, stored by us, or shared with third parties. Granting location is optional; the rest of the app works without it, and you can revoke the permission at any time in your device settings.

Notifications

The app sends no push notifications and registers no push token with any notification service. New-wash alerts are delivered by email only — see “Email alerts for new car washes” below.

Favourites and settings

Car washes you star as favourites, and app preferences, are stored only on your device. They are not uploaded to us and are removed when you delete the app.

Car-wash data

The app downloads the public car-wash directory from our servers. Like any internet request, this reaches our hosting provider with technical metadata (such as your IP address and device type), which is processed only to operate and secure the service. The map itself is rendered by Google Maps; loading it shares your IP address and map interactions with Google under its own privacy policy.

Unless you switch it off, the app also sends us usage analytics, and it sends an error report when something goes wrong. Both are described under “Analytics” and “Diagnostics and error reports” below.

The websites

The websites need no account and set no advertising or tracking cookies. They do keep one small, non-identifying item in your browser so we can tell a first visit from a return visit. How we measure their use is described under “Analytics” below. The map may ask your browser for location to centre on you; that is handled by your browser and used only in the page.

If you use the contact form, the name, email address, and message you submit are sent (via our email provider, Resend) to us so we can reply. We keep that correspondence only as long as needed to handle your enquiry.

Analytics

Both the websites and the app are measured with Plausible Analytics, a privacy-friendly, cookieless tool that we run on our own servers. This usage data is not shared with any analytics vendor, is never used for advertising, ad profiling, or cross-app tracking, and is not sold or passed to data brokers. The app reports separately from the websites, so app and web numbers stay apart.

On the websites this records aggregated usage: page views, referring site, approximate country-level location, and device and browser type. It does not build a cross-site profile of you or identify you personally.

To tell a first visit from a return visit, each website also keeps a short list of the dates you visited it — at most the last 28 — in your own browser's storage. That list stays on your device and is never sent to us. What the page view carries is only the band it falls in: whether you have been here before within those 28 days, and roughly on how many of them (for example “2–6 days” or “21–28 days”). It holds no identifier, each of our sites keeps its own and no other site can read it, and it never tells us the individual dates you were here. The app keeps no such list.

You can clear that list at any time by clearing the site's data in your browser, or avoid it entirely by browsing in a private window. Note that blocking analytics.selfcarwashes.com stops the measurement reaching us but does not by itself stop your browser keeping the list.

In the app it records which screens you open — including the page of an individual car wash, identified by its public listing id — and a small set of interactions: tapping a car wash pin on the map, launching directions, sharing a car wash, and anonymous counts of starring a favourite, submitting a report, claiming a listing, signing up for alerts, and changing the app language.

These events never include your coordinates, never say which car wash you starred, contain no free text, and carry no per-install or device identifier — so they cannot be linked together into a profile of one person. As with any request, the beacon reaches our server with an IP address; Plausible uses it to work out an approximate country and does not store it alongside the event.

You can switch analytics off in the app's Settings screen. With it off, the app sends no analytics events at all. The websites have no such switch — they are measured only in the aggregate way described above — but blocking the host analytics.selfcarwashes.com in your browser or network stops that measurement being sent.

Diagnostics and error reports

When the app or a website hits an unexpected error, a short technical report is sent to our own servers so we can find and fix it. It contains the error message, the technical stack trace, and where in the app or page it happened — for the app also the platform (iOS or Android) and the app version, and for the websites the page path with any query string removed. It carries no location, no favourites list, and no identifier for you or your device; the message and stack trace are technical detail about the failure, not the contents of anything you filled in. These reports go only to us — there is no third-party crash-reporting service — and live in our server logs, which we keep only as long as they are useful for debugging. Separately, if your phone is set to share crash data with Apple or Google, the operating system may report app crashes to them under their own privacy policies.

Email alerts for new car washes

If you subscribe to new-wash alerts — on the website or in the app — we ask for your email address and the map location and radius you choose. We process this on the basis of your consent, confirmed by a double opt-in: we email you a confirmation link and store nothing until you click it. We use it only to email you when a new self-service car wash opens within the area you chose, and for nothing else. Every alert has a one-click unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing deletes your record; you can also ask us to remove it at info@selfcarwashes.com.

Business submissions

If you claim a car-wash listing, or request API / data access, the name, company, email address, and message you submit are emailed to us (via Resend) and stored so we can verify the request and follow up. We keep these records for as long as needed to handle the request and any resulting business relationship.

Service providers

We rely on a small number of processors who handle data on our behalf:

• Hetzner — hosting the websites, the API the app downloads the directory from, the database holding the new-wash alert subscriber list and business enquiries, our self-hosted analytics (websites and app), and the endpoint that receives error reports, on servers in the EU (Germany).
• Cloudflare — content delivery, DNS, and security (DDoS protection) in front of the websites and of the endpoints the app talks to: the directory feed, analytics, and error reports.
• Google Maps — rendering the interactive map.
• Resend — delivering contact, alert, and business-enquiry email.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you may request access to, correction of, or erasure of any personal data we hold about you, and object to or restrict its processing. Email info@selfcarwashes.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Estonian Data Protection Inspectorate (Andmekaitse Inspektsioon).

Children

The service is a general-audience directory and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes

We may update this policy as the service evolves. Material changes will be reflected in the “last updated” date above.
