Accessibility

We want everyone to be able to find a self-service car wash, whatever tools they use to browse. This statement describes the accessibility features of both the Self Car Washes website and the iOS and Android apps, and how to reach us if something gets in your way.

In the mobile app

The app is built and tested against Apple’s Accessibility Nutrition Label criteria and the equivalent Android accessibility guidelines. It supports:

• VoiceOver & TalkBack. Every control — map pins, list rows, the favourite star, filters, the detail screen and settings — carries a spoken label, role and state, so the whole 'find a car wash and get directions' task works with the screen reader alone. Where the map itself is visual, the Nearby list offers the same information as a fully navigable alternative.
• Voice Control. Buttons are labelled to match their visible text, and every gesture-only action (swipe-to-delete, press-and-hold) also has a plain tappable control, so the app can be operated entirely by voice.
• Larger Text (Dynamic Type). Text scales with your system text-size setting, including the largest accessibility sizes, and layouts reflow rather than clip.
• Dark interface. A full dark theme follows your system appearance, or can be set explicitly, across every screen and the map.
• Differentiate without colour alone. Status and selection never rely on colour by itself — open/closed shows a text label, the favourite star changes shape, and selected options carry a checkmark and a spoken 'selected' state.
• Sufficient contrast. Text and controls meet WCAG contrast targets (4.5:1 for text, 3:1 for controls) in both light and dark themes.
• Reduced motion. With Reduce Motion (iOS) or Remove Animations (Android) enabled, card, map and screen-transition animations are replaced with an instant change.

The app has no audio or video content, so captions and audio descriptions do not apply.

On the website

The site aims to meet WCAG 2.1 level AA. It uses semantic headings and landmarks, is operable by keyboard, respects your prefers-reduced-motion and dark-mode settings, and keeps text and controls within the same contrast targets as the app. The interactive map is complemented by text location and city pages so the same information is reachable without it.

Known limitations

A map is an inherently visual control. For screen-reader and keyboard users the Nearby list, the “nearest wash” action, and the per-location pages provide the same find-and-navigate outcome without depending on the map. We treat any gap here as a bug — please tell us about it.
